Pssst…greetings, listeners! We just can’t keep author Jake Burt’s hilarious essay recounting his audiobook experience all to ourselves. His debut middle-grade listen, GREETINGS FROM WITNESS PROTECTION! (on sale now), about a family on the run (plus, one streetwise girl pretending to be a family member—to throw the bad guys off, of course. But don’t tell anyone!) is brought to life on audio by four terrific narrators. But what is it really like to be an author about to meet the voices of your fictional creations for the first time? Terrifying, apparently. Read more
October is one of my favorite months of the year. The air starts to cool and the leaves begin to change. Everything is lovely and cozy, with Halloween capping off the month with some mischief and fun. It’s the perfect time to find a favorite pair of tall boots, plug in earphones, and enjoy the crisp fall weather with amazing listens. Here are a few recommendations:
Max Brallier’s The Last Kids on Earth is a hilarious adventure for young listeners. When thirteen-year-old Jack Sullivan realizes he can’t take on the monster apocalypse alone, he enlists his classmates to make the fight fair. With this new team, he’ll be able to slay Blarg (the eerily intelligent monster) and not be average anymore…or so he hopes.
Wonder Woman is everywhere. With the recent film starring Gal Gadot, it seems like we can’t get enough superheroines. Luckily, Leigh Bardugo, of the Grisha trilogy and the Six of Crows duology, has written Wonder Woman: Warbringer, an action-packed listen sure to satisfy fans of all ages.
There really is no typical high school story—every tale is different—and there’s no better way to discover the variety of experiences than through realistic young-adult fiction. Ranging from thrilling suspense revolving around friendship, to heartbreaking stories of young people reacting to loss, all of these stories make great listens. Teenagers have to deal with more in life than just tests and cute classmates: these audiobooks are jumping-off points for deeper discussion.
“What inspired me to write MEDITATE WITH ME: A Step-by-Step Mindfulness Journey was I wanted kids to have a way to slow down. I wanted to give kids a beloved book that they could connect to, that they could interact with, practices that were easy for them, a way to feel their breath in their body, a way to slow down when they need it, and a way to really calm themselves…a way to sort of start practicing self-soothing techniques that they’ll really need throughout their entire lives.”

Are you excited to return to the world of His Dark Materials? We sure are. With The Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman set to release on October 19 (and Michael Sheen announced as its narrator!), we thought now would be a great time to reconnect with one of our favorite characters, Lyra Belacqua.
