We The People

Every Fourth of July Americans gather together to honor the ideas expressed in our nation’s founding documents. But how much do we really know about what we’re celebrating?

Recent surveys have indicated that most Americans lack basic civics knowledge – only 25% of U.S. adults can name all three branches of government, and more than 30% are unable to even name a single branch. This is a significant decline over previous years according to a survey by the Annenberg Public Policy Center.

The common foundation laid out in the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence is precisely what unites us as Americans. It is crucial that we all make a commitment to better understand how our government works.

In celebration of July 4th, Penguin Random House Audio is pleased to offer this free audio stream of The Declaration of Independence, narrated by Frank Langella, and the U.S. Constitution, narrated by Boyd Gaines*. We encourage you to listen to the words written by our Founding Fathers and hear these documents brought to life.
