As we continue to face a unique set of challenges together as a society, it is glaringly clear how human connection is intrinsic to who we are as people. But how do we stand in solidarity and find community against a backdrop of a global pandemic and as the country grapples with the state of police brutality and racism? One idea is joining events and participating in communities that create safe spaces to learn new ideas and perspectives that can deepen the understanding of racism and the Black experience in America.
As the Penguin Random House Audio Events Manager, I am happy to share that Penguin Random House is partnering with AFROPUNK for Rock ‘N Read, a new Book Club Instagram Live series. Every Wednesday at 5pm ET for the next 7 weeks, on @afropunk’s Instagram, we will host a one-hour interview with one of our Black and Brown authors and a PRH staff member. Each of these authors will explore the struggles and triumphs of Black and Brown people in America. We are also partnering with a different Black-owned bookstore each week (The Lit. Bar, Eso Won, Uncle Bobbie’s, Mahogany Books, and Loyalty Books). I hope you will be able to join us and find that these conversations will empower you to read, discover, and explore your own stories.
Read on to find the full schedule of participating authors and Black-owned bookstores below, along with links to the authors’ audiobooks. If you missed the start of our series and conversations with Daymond John, author of Powershift and R. Eric Thomas, author of Here For It, you can access those videos below as well.
