As Autumn comes to a close, I tend to seek out heartwarming listens that help fend off the cold. With that in mind, I picked up Lauren Graham’s Talking as Fast as I Can. What’s more delightful to a Gilmore Girls fan than hearing from a Gilmore Girl?
Listening to Talking as Fast as I Can is like sitting at Luke’s Diner with Lauren Graham, drinking coffee, and making pop culture references. The collection of personal essays takes us on a journey through Lauren’s career from the roles that lead up to Lorelai Gilmore to the roles that follow, and to her return to her trademark character. Her passion for her work and this role is so clear and exuberant that one can’t help but feel overjoyed. It’s an audiobook not to be missed!
Speaking of things that should not be missed, I can’t recommend Michael Bublé’s new album enough. In Nobody But Me, the vocalist surprises with his rap-adorned single! I was thrilled to hear this integration. The album also features Meghan Trainor, whose cheerfulness exudes in Someday. But don’t worry, there’s still a lot of big band, jazzy romance on this album. So if you’re looking for pop standards, turn up the volume and enjoy On an Evening in Roma.
If old-fashioned entertainment is of interest, then I would encourage you to tune into Gimlet Media’s podcast Homecoming. A scripted psychological thriller that stars Catherine Keener, Oscar Isaac, and David Schwimmer, Homecoming is a fast-paced, high-intensity drama. The writing, acting, and sound design are fantastic and each episode is about 20 minutes long. It’s a treat to listen to on the commute home!
