What We’re Listening To – June’s Picks

I love nothing more than a story that pulls you in and keeps you hooked until the last second. Here are the listens that swept me away this month.

Like millions of other listeners, I became addicted and quickly binge-listened to S Town, the new podcast from the team behind the breakout podcast sensation Serial. What starts as another true crime investigation quickly becomes something else entirely—the twists will keep you listening until the very end! S Town delivers a truly engrossing character study of John B. McLemore, an eccentric outsider living in “S Town,” Alabama. I won’t give anything else away—just listen as the story unfolds.

Speaking of Serial Season One, true crime fans will love David Grann’s newest audio KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, a haunting true-life murder mystery about one of history’s most monstrous crimes. Grann is a master of narrative non-fiction and in this audio, he combines his knack for journalistic research with incredible storytelling. I couldn’t stop listening—this is a true story that will thrill fans of In Cold Blood and Erik Larson’s non-fiction. Listen to a clip and learn more about KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON here.

Finally, Hamilton: An American Musical fans who have listened to the soundtrack on repeat hundreds of times can add a new listen to their list: ALEX & ELIZA, read by Cassandra Campbell. Bestselling young adult author Melissa de la Cruz delivers the epic love story of young Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler in this well-researched and riveting historical fiction listen. She pulls out all the stops in this audio, bringing listeners sumptuous romance and imaginative writing that truly brings history to life. Hamilnerds who can’t get enough can find our top listens for Hamilton fans here.
